KOFI ANNAN ICT CENTRE & STU FOR DEVELOPMENT

“We intend to pilot two programmes – assembling drones
and programming them for agricultural purposes. We know that in our agric sector, sometimes we are caught in between before we begin to take action. Look at the fall army worms that invaded our farmlands so we want to be proactive so that when such things re-occur in future we could deal with it effectively using modern technology”

Kofi Annan ICT Centre & STU for dev’t
The Ghana-India Kofi Annan ICT Centre of excellence is to collaborate with the Sunyani Technical University to set up drones assembling centre in Sunyani to facilitate agricultural activities.

To this end, the Centre has opened two additional secretariats in Sunyani and Bolgatanga as part of plans to bring its services closer to people.

This came to light when the Director-General of the Kofi Annan ICT Centre, Kwasi Adu Gyan paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor of the Sunyani Technical University, Prof. Ing. Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appiah in his office.

It was to explore possible ways of partnering in the area of ICT to facilitate not only teaching and learning but also using ICT to solve some of the pertinent socio-economic issues confronting society.

Pilot stage
“We intend to pilot two programmes – assembling drones and programming them for agricultural purposes. We know that in our agric sector, sometimes we are caught in between before we begin to take action. Look at the fall army worms that invaded our farmlands so we want to be proactive so that when such things re-occur in future we could deal with it effectively using modern technology”, Mr. Adu Gyan said.

“When I assumed my current position, I saw the need to have two more Centres – one in Sunyani to take care of the middle belt and one in Bolgatanga to cater for the northern sector.”

“What is unique about the centre in Sunyani is that besides the capacity building, we set it up as a centre that is going to develop work in the area of Internet of Things (IoTs) – exponential technology – to exploit that arena so we look at that.”

“And if we’re talking about exponential technology or IoTs, definitely smart things, the best institution to collaborate here in Sunyani is the Sunyani Technical University.”

He said the Ghana-India Kofi Annan ICT Centre has in recent times been focusing more on capacity building and training “and so we’ve become the training hub where people who have attained degrees in computer science engineering or even people who have no idea of computer science or have some slightest idea, or people who might have done other programmes – either literature, psychology or philosophy but for some reasons want to move to ICT.”

“So we are set up to develop the professionalism that people need to carry out activities in ICT and as you are all aware, technology is changing very fast and there is the need for us to also move very fast.”

Timely intervention
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Ing. Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appiah described his visit and the establishment of the Sunyani Centre as timely because of the enormous benefits students and lecturers of the university stand to gain from it.

According to him, the university had already begun moves to establish a drones assembling facility at the university to “propel agriculture” and so it would collaborate with the centre to further advance that course.

The Pro-Vice Chancellor, Dr. Justice Solomon Korantwi-Barimah; the Registrar, Mr. Samuel Ankama Obour and Dr. Jones Lewis Arthur, the Director of the International Relations and Institutional Linkage Directorate of STU as well as some other staff of the university were present at the meeting.

Centre of excellence
The Ghana - India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT is Ghana’s first Advanced Information Technology Institute. Founded in 2003, AITI-KACE is a world-class research facility with the focus on innovating products and services for individual and institutional advancement.

The Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (AITI-KACE) was established in 2003 through a partnership between Government of Ghana and the Government of India. It is Ghana’s first Advanced Information Technology Institute charged with the task of stimulating growth in the ICT Sector in ECOWAS.

FIVE: RIDICULOUS REASONS WHY TERTIARY STUDENTS DATE IN GHANA

5 ridiculous reasons why tertiary students date in Ghana

Life as a student can sometimes be a complicated. This is because one learns a lot whiles in school, and one thing that cannot be escaped is relationships.

For many people, it is at school that they first fall in love, for others that is where they start their first relationships.

The four corners of a classroom may be made for studying, but trust me, there is more to it than just carrying a bag loaded with books in and out of the class.

Very few are able to go through school, especially at tertiary level, without entering a relationship or getting involved with an admirer.

However, whiles this may lead to a genuine relationship, there are some occasions where students enter into relationships for silly reasons.

Below are five ridiculous reasons why a student may get into a relationship.

1. To escape assignments

Most girls normally find themselves caught up in this web. Many of them will intentionally get into a relationship with a brilliant guy just because he will take care of their assignments for them.

The idea is that a smart boyfriend will find no problem assisting or even wholly taking care of assignments as and when they prove stressful.

2. Free ride

Gone are the days when every ‘bogga’ on campus can win over a lady he desires. Now a days if you don’t have a car then you better advice yourself before approaching some girls.

Some girls are very selective when it comes to relationships but will readily date a guy who drives a car. This is because they would be guaranteed free ride to and from school.

3. Bandwagon and peer pressure

Another weird reason why some students opt to enter into relationships is because of peer pressure and bandwagon effect.

No one wants to be seen as the ‘dull’ boy or girl on campus, and so when they realise that almost everyone is in a relationship, they cannot resist the chance to also join.

It may sound weird but this is really happening on the various campuses.

4. Just for sex

Most boys are guilty in this regard. There are some students who can just not keep their zips closed and will be seeking for relationship to satisfy their pleasures.

Such relationships normally do not last because once he finishes with one girl, he will dump her and be looking for another partner.

5. Sponsorship

If you think it’s only ‘sugar daddies’ that sponsor campus girls, then you are wrong. There are some students who would actually go into a relationship due to the benefits they will get from it.

If the guy can sponsor her, that is, buy the pizzas, foot the lorry fares and pay for the handouts, then she okay and game on!

FIVE TIPS ON DATING AGAIN AFTER A RECENT BREAKUP

5 Tips On Dating Again After A Recent Breakup

Starting a new relationship after a recent (or not too recent) breakup usually takes a lot of strength and boldness. There is that part of wanting to be careful so as not to repeat the same mistakes from the last relationship, then there is the part that does not want to compare yet does not want to be taken for granted.

Many times getting to walk through these can be so demanding you don’t even want to try afresh. However, one must try to heal from the past and move on as soon as one knows s/he is ready for a new relationship.

Sometimes, even when we get advances from people we tend to turn them down due to fears and uncertainties. The truth is all these are understandable and are very valid, also, another truth is that it is possible to find love again after a breakup if one does the right things. That is what this article is about.

Here are 5 tips on dating again after a breakup.

1.  Have A Positive Mind-set

There is usually that cloud of pessimism that tries to come after a breakup. There is usually that urge to feel like you are not good enough or that the new person will do something wrong sooner or later. This kind of mind-set can cause some trouble, such as seeing flaws where there are none.

Approaching a new relationship with the right mind-set can help you enjoy the relationship.

2.  Don’t Compare The New Partner With Your Ex

Another urge we get when getting into new relationships or relating with people is comparing people. There will be that temptation to expect certain things from your old relationship to be done by your new partner.

Doing this can prevent you from understanding the new partner’s uniqueness and in effect, prevent you from enjoying the new relationship due to disappointments. It is important to fight that urge as much as possible.

3. Take Things Slow

Most times when we get into a new relationship we always want to rush things and go so fast. This most times is because we see the new relationship as a gift for our healing so we do things because we are scared of losing this new one.

We should however, learn to take things slow and allow time help us learn things about each other.

4.  Do Other Things Apart From Dating

That one is in a relationship does not mean s/he should not do other things. Other things like going to the movies alone or shopping or spending time with the girls or boys or other fun things alone. In fact, it is a good thing to do too.

This helps you not get too worked up with the relationship. Also, you get to live an understanding life knowing that you both have your individual lives too apart from each other. You also get to enjoy your individual lives.

5.      Set Realistic Expectations

Even though one should not expect too much from his or her partner because they are also humans, one should also expect some things. Not having any expectations can make one taken for granted by his or her partner.

However, one’s expectations should be realistic, not something formed from mars or fantasies. They should be things you know your partner can do.

Let us know some other tips on how to date again after a relationship in the comments section below.

TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY LECTURERS TO STRIKE OVER SALARIES

TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY LECTURERS TO STRIKE OVER SALARIES

Lecturers of the Technical Universities (TUs) in the country are planning a strike over government’s delay in migrating them onto the public universities salary structure.

For two years, the staff of the six technical universities have been working without the due and commensurate salaries, something the lecturers have described as “distasteful and unwarranted”.

The Technical Universities Teachers Association (TUTAG) says the government’s failure to migrate them is causing tension among their members and become disincentive to both teaching and non-teaching staff.

At a news conference Tuesday, TUTAG said they have suffered enough “unfairness and injustice” and will not stop at nothing in ensuring that they are placed on the appropriate salary structure.

“Despite our being labelling as universities…all workers of TUs do not enjoy the deserved remuneration and respect that goes with it,” Chairman of the Kumasi Technical University Chapter of TUTAG, Ing. Andrews Danquah, said.

The processes required for their migration, he said, have been completed yet the government has been dragging its feet in getting them onto the public universities salary structure.

According to TUTAG, government has finished the amendment of the Act that converted the six polytechnics into universities, and also done with audit of all senior members of TUTAG to the extent that some of them lost their positions in the process.

“As if that is not enough, even those the Ministry and the NCTE have cleared as qualified to occupy their positions have still not been migrated onto the public university salary structure.

He said the audit report a copy of which was issued to TUTAG in January, had a cover letter from the Education Minister directing the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to take steps to migrate qualified staff of TUs onto the structure immediately.

However, he said that was yet to be done almost five months on.

“This we find callous on the part of government” he stated, and added “we see this foot-dragging as a sign of government who do not believe in the vision of establishing the TUs in the first place”.

Ing Danquah said TUTAG staff currently have no idea whatsoever on when they are likely to be migrated, saying they do not “know when…the exact time our members will be migrated and whether we will enjoy any back pay or not as a result of the delays that are completely the responsibility of the government”.

He said TUTAG was giving government up to the end of June to ensure staff of TUs are migrated onto the public universities salary structure or they will embark on strike to demand the right thing is done.

“We further wish to state clearly that due to the unnecessary delays, we hereby give the government up to the end of June 2019 to migrate all qualified staff of the TUs to their rightful skills on the public universities salaries structure, otherwise together with our national body, we shall advise ourselves within the ambit of the law of the land,” he warned.

DO CAMPUS RELATIONSHIPS LAST AFTER GRADUATION (STU)

Do Campus Relationships Last After Graduation? (Invite To Join the Comment below for Live Discussion And Hear Different Stories)

Campus relationships are at least more serious than high school relationships, that we can all agree. And statistics have it that most girls lose their virginity while in campus (I'm tempted to ask a lady reading this, is it true? Ha-ha). However, in campus every Isaac, Ernest, and Stephen has a reason fueling their need to be in a relationship. For some, especially Ernest  (pun intended), all they want is to shag a girl who makes their Wally hard and drooling with spooge, and call it a day. No serious strings attached. Some ladies too, for the first time they are in campus and away from helicopter parenting, they want to be adventurous and see if Ernest is a good boy; whether he does his assignments well.

But for some, they are sincerely after a true relationship which they have committed to working on diligently to make it work. But considering that most likely at campus both partners are on the same level (not earning), then does the love hold on after graduation and after life changes drastically? The same question was asked on STUONLINE Buzz Q and A platform, and this confession by one of our app users caught our attention. Have a read:

I relate to the pain of losing someone you loved so much and thought the two of you would marry. I started dating him as soon as we joined first year. I lost my virginity to him in second year. I even introduced him to my parents over the long holiday, because I was sure he was the one. No one could convince me otherwise; for me the match had been made in heaven. He was a good guy, he introduced me to his parents too. We had great sex on a weekly basis, and countless kisses that shone sunshine into my life. We promised each other to get married and grow old together. After we graduated (from STU) we went on with the relationship but the more the jobless life after campo became frustrating, the more our communication scaled off. I tried my best to keep up but his desire for me was slowly fading. We finally broke up. Ok, now I have a guy, the seventh I've had since we broke up. But I miss my first love and right now, I advise all of you not to have any hopes of marriage if it's a campus relationship

It's a hot topic of discussion, and I invite you to join us in the Comment button below  where we will be trying to rate the chances of a campus relationship surving after graduation and sauntering on into marriage. Are you in campus and dating? Do you see the two of you marrying after school? Are you sure a new job won't change him/her? Or maybe he/she will meet his/her dream lover while in the space of employment and chuck you like an old newspaper? Are you married? Was he/she your campus lover?
